Poke Dojo Brings Hawaii's Popular Fish Dish To Bethesda Row

BETHESDA, MD — You don't have to be on the other side of the country to get a taste of Hawaii's popular raw fish dish, poké. Poke Dojo wants to share its love for the fish salad with other seafood lovers in Bethesda.

The Japanese restaurant recently opened up shop at Bethesda Row. Located at 7110 Bethesda Lane, the 1,174-square-foot store is one of the latest additions to the Bethesda Row development.

If you're unfamiliar with poké, think of it as sushi in a bowl, according to popular soy sauce and food manufacturer Kikkoman. The dish consists of cubed raw fish, rice and/or salad, vegetables, and other customizable sauces and mix-ins. It's been a culinary favorite in the Aloha State for years — but has only recently taken the mainland by storm. Tip: poké should be pronounced as poh-KAY, which rhymes with "okay."

At Poke Dojo, customers can choose signature or customizable bowls.

Each bowl comes with a base — either sushi rice, brown rice, white rice, or mixed greens. Proteins include tuna, salmon, garlic shrimp, and organic tofu. From there, you can choose from a variety of sauces and toppings, such as avocado, wasabi aioli, crispy shallots, pickled ginger, edamame, spicy mayo, and mango.
