Premiere Performance: DEKA Piano Trio

The DEKA Piano Trio will present its premiere performance at the Washington Conservatory on 12/5 with a program of Beethoven and Brahms.

The Washington Conservatory of Music is proud to announce the premiere concert of the DEKA Piano Trio, at 8 pm Saturday, December 5 as part of the Washington Conservatory Piano Plus Concert Series. The performance will be held at Westmoreland Congregational Church, 1 Westmoreland Circle, Bethesda, MD – at Massachusetts and Western Avenues, the border of Washington DC and Bethesda.

The concert is free with donations welcome at the door. Suggested donation is $20. Immediately following the concert, audience members are invited to meet the musicians and to enjoy complimentary beverages.

The trio will perform Beethoven Piano Trios Op.1, No. 3 and Op. 70 No. 1 and Brahms Piano Trio, No. 2 in C Major, Op. 87.

The DEKA Piano Trio is comprised of outstanding faculty members of the Washington Conservatory: Violinist Ko Sugiyama is Associate Concertmaster of the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra and has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the New World Symphony and the Cleveland Pops. Cellist Danielle Cho was featured soloist at the 2014 TedxFulbright Conference and toured internationally under Lorin Maazel with the Palau de Les Arts Orchestra of Valencia, Spain. Pianist Edvinas Minkstimas is winner of nine international piano competitions and performs internationally, having recently returned from a seven-day, seven-city concert tour of Poland.

In choosing a name for their ensemble, the trio members used the first letters of each person’s first name: Danielle-Edvinas-Ko. Deka is also believed to be a name of Somali origin, that means “one who pleases,” besides being “ten” in Greek (a subtle reference to a musician’s ten fingers!).

Upcoming performances by the DEKA Piano Trio include a February 2016 concert at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

The Washington Conservatory is a nationally accredited community music school for students of all ages, located in Bethesda and Glen Echo Park. The Conservatory welcomes both seasoned and novice classical concert-goers and encourages families to attend with their children. Back balcony seating is suggested for families with small children for napping and easy exit. Parking is in the church lot and on-street on Massachusetts and Western Avenues.
