Safeway Store Robbery Suspect Photo Released

Montgomery County Police hope the public can help identify an alleged shoplifter who threatened a manager with a weapon.

A surveillance camera photo of a North Bethesda Safeway store robber was released Thursday by Montgomery County Police, who hope the public can help identify the suspect.

An armed man held up the grocery store located at 5200 Randolph Road at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 17. Police say the suspect took items from the store without paying and threatened the manager with a weapon when confronted. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot toward Parklawn Drive.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 40 years old, 6’0” tall, and weighing 200 pounds. He is bald with a goatee. In the photograph taken at the time of the robbery, he was wearing a yellow shirt, khaki pants and a black backpack.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call police at 240-773-5100.
