Saint Mark Presbyterian Church Welcomes New Pastor Jay Lynn Moses

Reverend Doctor Jay Lynn Moses most recently served for seven years as the pastor of Hope Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, Illinois.

NORTH BETHESDA, MD — Reverend Doctor Jay Lynn Moses was recently named the senior at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in North Bethesda, according to a release. A sixth-generation minister, Moses is only the third pastor the church has had in its 65 years of existence.

Born in San Jose, California, Moses previously served at Hope Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, Illinois.

One of Moses' special callings is inter-religious and ecumenical dialogue. Over two decades, he fostered vibrant intra-cultural relationships with local members of Jewish, Muslim, Mormon, Hindu and Sikh communities in Chicago.

“Having the ability to live with these communities in seeking peace and understanding has been a great thrill, adventure, and opportunity for growth," Moses said, in a release.

In August, an ABC 7 report highlighted his inter-religious and ecumenical work in the Chicago area.

At Azusa Pacific University, Moses majored in majored in Biblical studies and clinical psychology. He continued his studies atFuller Seminary in Pasadena, California, Northern Seminary in Lisle, Illinois, and the Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park, Illinois.

On Sept. 1, 2001, Moses was ordained into the Presbyterian Church (USA) but comes from an ecumenical background.

Moses' wife Sharri is a longtime educator and reading specialist, who currently teaches third grade at Pine Crest Elementary School in Silver Spring.

Married 28 years, the couple has have two children attending college in California. Daughter Haile is a junior majoring political science at the University of Redlands, and son Connor is a freshman at Chapman University.

Moses' varied interests include fingerstyle guitar, basketball, Star Wars and Tolkien.
