The woman who died in a Takoma Park stabbing has been identified. She had driven a bus for Montgomery County Public Schools, police say.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — A Takoma Park woman who died, along with her unborn child, after she was stabbed Wednesday had worked as a school bus driver in Montgomery County.

About 3 a.m. Thursday, Takoma Park Police detectives arrested Thierry Kinshala Nkusu, 33, of Silver Spring, and charged him with second-degree murder in the deaths. More charges are pending, the department says on its Facebook page.

Officers called to the 600 block of Houston Avenue about 2 p.m. Wednesday found an injured Nkusu near an elevator by the lobby.

Soon after, police spotted a woman with multiple stab wounds in an apartment, later identified as Maria Veronica Mbunga, 36, of Takoma Park. Mbunga and her unborn child died from their injuries.

After being taken to the hospital, it was determined that Nkusu had superficial knife wounds that did not correlate with what he told police had occurred; he did not require surgery.
