Skating Season is Here!
Silver Spring Ice Skating is the first outdoor rink in the region open for the 2015-2016 season

Just 200 yards from the D.C. border at Veteran’s Plaza in Silver Spring, the outdoor ice skating season has begun. It’s the first outdoor rink to open in the DC region, and it will be open every day through March 25, including all holidays, for public ice skating with skate rentals, plus parties, private rentals, lessons, and more.
Rink manager, Lance Curran, is proud to say that Silver Spring is always the first to open in the DC region. As he explains, a special paint is applied to the ice surface enabling the chillers under the ice surface to do their work. “The painted ice looks nice, but it’s also important for reflecting the sun’s energy on our outdoor rink,” says Curran. “We’re open when it is warm, snowing, or raining.” The rink is protected from precipitation by the swooping pavilion roof, which glows with hundreds of multi-color lights in the evening hours. At 106 feet by 57 feet, the rink is an ideal size for all levels of skaters. For toddlers, double bladed skates are available, and to keep new skaters steady on the ice, penguin-shaped skating aids are provided on request. To maintain the smooth ice surface on a daily basis, Silver Spring has a brand new Zamboni this year. The latest updates, special events, and photos are posted on Facebook, Silver Spring Ice Skating at Veterans Plaza, that has more than 25,000 followers. Visit the website for hours and rates, www.SilverSpringIceSkating.com. The convenient location is surrounded by shops and restaurants, and has plenty of parking available, free on weeknights after 8 p.m., and all day on weekends.
