Students at Bethesda Country Day School® Soar into Earth Day with Ladybug Release
Students spread their environmental wings and released thousands of ladybugs into the environment to improve the health of local vegetation
On April 21, students at Bethesda Country Day School in Bethesda explored a bug’s life in celebration of Earth Day as they released thousands of ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students dressed for the occasion in the likeness of ladybugs, wearing red and black colors and antennae. During the event, students also unveiled a new mural they created out of recycled materials, including bottle caps, cans and cardboard. Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Bethesda Country Day School teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at a young age.
