Victim, Driver Identified in Fatal Rockville Pike Crash (Update)

Police say a Virginia motorcyclist died from injuries suffered in the Bethesda crash with a Ride On bus driven by a Silver Spring man.

A Virginia man died Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collied with a Ride On bus on Rockville Pike in Bethesda.

Montgomery County Police say the accident happened just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Rockville Pike (MD 355) and South Drive.

The motorcyclist, identified as Francis G. Plati Jr., 35, of Woodleigh Lane in Stafford, VA, was southbound on Rockville Pike. A Ride On bus, driven by Hyggins Charles, 59, of East Indian Spring Drive in Silver Spring, was northbound on Rockville Pike.

Police say the bus driver turned left onto South Drive and the vehicles collided in the intersection.

Plati was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

There were no passengers on the Ride On bus at the time of the crash.
