The two right lanes of southbound MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) from Spring Street to Fenwick Lane in Silver Spring will close early Saturday morning, April 18, to allow crane work in the area.

Beginning at 7 a.m., a large crane will move into place that will lift materials onto the roof at Pantzer Properties’ The Point at Silver Spring building at 8750 Georgia Ave., which is near the ramps to I-495 (Capital Beltway). According to the State Highway Administration, all traffic lanes should be open by 4 p.m. Saturday.

In case of inclement weather, the work would be rescheduled for Saturday, April 25.

Drivers should plan ahead and add extra travel time, officials said. Traffic Engineering Systems, LLC may use arrow panels, construction barrels, cones and a flagging operation to direct motorists through the work zone. Electronic messaging signs were placed along MD 97 last week alerting drivers to the lane closures.
