Waverly Street Gallery presents BLOOMING Sculpture by Wanjin Kim And work by Gallery Artists

Wanjin Kim’s exhibition “Blooming” is a conversation between her small figurative sculptures and large hanging wire sculptures. Kim’s small bronze sculptures called the “Green People” focus on the interactions between people and the tensions existing in human relationships. The wire sculptures are formed of copper wire which has been twisted, flattened, and dynamically arranged to lead the eye to the bright red coral set in the center of each wall piece. The counterpoint of additional fine copper wires woven into delicate shapes gives the impression of flowers suspended in space. Looking at these pieces allows the viewer to not only reflect on the nature of the world we live in today, but also to appreciate Wanjin Kim’s wide range of metalworking techniques.

Kim started her studies in jewelry making and metalsmithing at Montgomery College in Rockville, received her Bachelor’s degree from Pratt Institute in New York, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. She has exhibited internationally over the past 20 years in both solo and group shows and is currently teaching jewelry classes at Montgomery College.
