2 Elderly Women Die In Temple Hills Assisted Living House Fire, Firefighters Injured
Officials are investigating a fire that consumed a converted assisted living home, killed 2 elderly women and injured several firefighters.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Two women died in a house fire Jan. 21 and four firefighters were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
According to the Prince George's Fire Department, crews arrived at the house located at 5708 Center Drive in Temple Hills shortly after 10 p.m. The home was engulfed in flames. Two individuals were able to escape the fire.
"Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior fire attack in an attempt to locate the trapped occupant. Shortly after entering the house, firefighters found two women dead," reported the Prince George's County Police Department.

After an investigation, officials discovered that the home had been converted to an assisted living facility. It had been last inspected in April 2021 and was found to be in compliance with fire code.
The two women who were killed in the fire are Joyce Brown, 83, and Eunice Chisley, 79.

The incident remains under investigation. Firefighters canvassed the neighborhood following the fire to discuss fire safety with residents, help them develop home escape plans and inspect homes for working smoke alarms. Firefighters installed new smoke alarms in nine of the homes visited. Anyone who needs a smoke alarm or assistance in developing a fire escape plan, contact the fire department at 301-583-2200.
