Do you have any previous political experience? If so, please state and explain how that experience will influence your time in office if elected.
I have not served in elected office, but served in the USAF and federal government as an attorney and advisor for general officers and political appointees. That experience exposed me to the inner workings of government as well as political relationships that provided mentoring and enhanced my leadership development.
What do you believe is the single-most important issue facing voters in the district you're looking to represent? How do you intend to address those issues?
The loss of federal government positions has gravely affected the economy and markets in Prince George's County. As a newly elected County Executive, I intend to recruit former federal workers to help improve efficiencies and services in County government.
How do you differ from other candidates running against you?
I worked in government for the first 20 years of my career, appreciate the interrelation among government agencies, and understand business and the economy. I have the skills and connections necessary to grow the County's revenue, relieve the tax burden on homeowners, and improve the overall quality of life for Prince Georgians.
How would your work experience benefit the goals/objectives you've outlined in your campaign and/or the office you're seeking?
My experience as an attorney, veteran, and banking and financial regulator will allow me to apply my understanding of federal and state law and policy to lead Prince George's County through its prolonged budget deficit, loss in revenue, and reduced services. I will also be able to find creative solutions to create new jobs and relieve the tax burden on homeowners.
What is your opinion of the work being done by the current office holder, and how will you improve on it? If that is you - how do you plan to continue improving upon what you've already accomplished?
The incumbent has not demonstrated the competencies the electorate expected when she was elected. The programs implemented have been wasteful or provided cosmetic fixes but no real improvements to the quality of life for Prince Georgians, especially considering the drastic changes in the federal government.
How do you feel about the school system in your area and what improvements would you like to see be made?
As a PGCPS parent, I am tired of our school system being ranked last or next-to-last in the State. With the employment of a qualified, experienced, servant, and empathetic superintendent, I believe we can have a school system that educates and prepares the County's children for a successful adulthood. More education funding must go to the classroom and less to high-paid administrators.
How do you feel about crime in your area, and what steps can be taken to reduce it?
Crime can be reduced by providing careers with living wages and better education for youth and young adults.
What do you think about the economic climate and business sector in your community, and what initiatives could propel it forward?
The economic climate is geared toward big tech and housing development, lobbyists, and special interests, while creating higher real estate taxes to support it. By recruiting more businesses in the trades, manufacturing, entertainment, and tourism industries, Prince George's County will be able to diversify its revenue, increase income tax revenue, and reduce the real estate tax burden.
How do you feel about transportation options in the area, and what, if anything, should be improved upon?
The completion of the long-awaited Purple Line will improve transportation options in the northern part of the County. We also need to improve public transit in southern and rural areas, as well as for the disabled and seniors. Additionally, our roadways require significant maintenance.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I am committed to strengthening Prince George's County for the betterment of all its residents. We all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and I will work each day to provide the services and supports that will help us all thrive.
