7 New Coronavirus Deaths In PG County; 11,608 Confirmed Cases

Prince George's County continues to lead the state of Maryland with the most confirmed coronavirus cases.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The Maryland Department of Health confirmed Monday 292 new cases of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, in Prince George's County. The overall total number of positive cases in the county is 11,608.

In addition, seven more people have died due to COVID-19, bringing the overall total of deaths in the county attributed to the disease to 415.

Prince George's County still has the highest number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus of any county in the state, according to the latest data from the Maryland Department of Health. Second on the list is Montgomery County, with a total of 8,417 positive infections. However, Montgomery does have more COVID-19-related deaths than Prince George's County with 442 deaths as of Monday morning.

On Thursday, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks extended her stay-at-home order through June 1. Over the next two weeks, Prince George's County health officials will be assessing the county's progress in meeting certain criteria before Alsobrooks will consider whether the county is ready to join the rest of Maryland and enter Phase One of the Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan's reopening plan.

The CDC advises doing the following to stop the spread of the virus:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If this is not available, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Keep 6 feet of space between people.
  • Stay home.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
