Storms Prompt 70+ Water Rescue Calls By Prince George's County Fire Department

The Prince George's Co. Fire Department responded to more than 70 water rescue calls during Wednesday's slow-moving storm and flash floods.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The Prince George's County Fire Department completed 71 water rescue calls within a six-hour period Wednesday as flash flooding caught several people by surprise during a slow-moving storm.

Low-lying areas prone to flooding found themselves with upwards of 5 feet of surging water, stranding some people in their vehicles.

PGFD shared on Twitter that they completed all 71 calls between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Several people in vehicles and two residents of a multi-family dwelling were assisted to safety by career and volunteer personnel.
