Assault Charges Dropped Against MD Del. Jeffrie Long: Report
Long, who represents Prince George's and Calvert counties, had been charged with burglary and assault following an April 4 incident.
CALVERT COUNTY, MD — Prosecutors on Friday dropped charges against Maryland Del. Jeffrie Long, who authorities had accused earlier this year of entering a home and threatening a woman with a pipe, according to a report.
The St. Mary's County State's Attorney's Office dropped second-degree assault and fourth-degree burglary charges against Long, a freshman delegate representing Calvert and Prince George's counties, WTOP reported.
Long initially faced charges of home invasion and first-degree felony assault, but prosecutors downgraded the charges during a May court appearance, according to WTOP.

"I'm very happy that the charges against Delegate Long were dismissed by the prosecutor this afternoon," Long's attorney, Michael Adams, told WTOP. "The allegations were false and Jeffrie has finally been vindicated."
Long had been accused of going to a home in the 1000 block of Stephen Reid Road in Huntingtown and threatening a woman with a pipe shortly before 10 p.m. on April 4, according to a statement of charges filed by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office.

Debbira Brown, one of the home's occupants, told police that Long was not an invited guest, according to records filed in court. Brown also told police he was armed with a pipe and threatened her.
Adams said Brown is Long's aunt. According to WTOP, Brown voluntarily dismissed a protective order filed against Long in April.
