Bowie Baysox Unveil 'Pitching Fish' Logo and Alternate Uniform
The team will wear the new uniforms—which is intended to solidify the team's ties to the Chesapeake Bay—on every Friday night home game in the upcoming season.
The Bowie Baysox decided it was time for a little bit of a change—in regards to the team’s logo. So they added a little bit of new artwork to their uniforms.
The Baysox are going to wear an alternate logo that’s featuring a teal fish throwing a baseball on a black jersey during every Friday night home game in the 2011 season.

“Our new ‘Pitching Fish’ logo solidifies our ties to the Chesapeake Bay,” said Bowie general manager Brian Shallcross in a statement on Monday. “The Bay is such an integral component of Maryland’s commercial and recreational appeal, we felt like this was a great way to strengthen our tie to it.
Shalcross said that this fish—in the logo—is a combination of the rockfish or striped bass and the Oyster toadfish. The team picked those two because they both do very well in a healthy Chesapeake Bay.

Plus, in addition to the new logo, the Baysox have entered into a partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Trust to help raise funds for the independent, non-profit grant-making organization.
Bowie’s home uniform has sometimes been an orange jersey with the team’s name on it but most of the time during its first 18 years, the Baysox have gone with a uniform that looks very much like its parent club—the Baltimore Orioles.
That is a white on white uniform with the word “Baysox” written in script. But that’s why the new alternate logo is going to be a completely different look since the team will have the black jerseys with the logo.
The 2011 season is set to begin next week when the Baysox go on the road to play Harrisburg on Thursday, April 7. The Baysox start their home season at Prince George’s Stadium seven days later to start a four-game series with Erie at 7:05 p.m.
