UPPER MARLBORO, MD — A Bowie man failed to yield to oncoming traffic Friday night, causing a three-vehicle crash that killed him and injured two other drivers, Maryland State Police say. Ramon Martinez, 59, of Bowie, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
Just before 7 p.m. Friday, Maryland State Police received calls from driver reporting a crash involving a Martinez's Chevy Trailblazer, a Mercedes SUV and a Jeep Cherokee on Crain Highway at Old Central Avenue in Upper Marlboro. Investigators say that Martinez was eastbound on Old Central Avenue at Crain Highway.
A Mercedes SUV driven by Ingrid Turner, 55, of Oxon Hill, was northbound on Crain Highway, when for unknown reasons, Martinez failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and drove directly into Turner's path, officials say. Turner struck the passenger side of Martinez’s vehicle, which disabled both vehicles. A Jeep Cherokee driven by Jacqueline Zachry, 49, of North Beach, struck the passenger side of Martinez’s vehicle.
