Bowie cyclist and shop owner's work to establish a national cycling museum.
In a small bicycle shop on 9th Street in Old Town Bowie there is a movement afoot. Proprietor, Michael DeNardo is embarking on an impressive endeavor—he is establishing The National Bicycle Museum.
His shop is stocked full of antique peddle bikes and from the turn of the last century to modern day mountain bikes. Prices range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. The shop offers lay away for more expensive cycles and an array of biking accessories, related literature, maps, and resources about local events. Just last month, the Tour de Port kicked off its 18th Annual tour across Maryland along its many trails.
DeNardo’s cycle collection which spans from 1887-1987 will be the bedrock for The National Bicycle Museum. Some of the historic collection can be seen in the shop and the accompanying photos.

Along with the history of cycling, the museum with offer a history of America and Old Town Bowie. The shop itself is located along both the East Coast Greenway and the American Discovery Trail. Any cyclists traveling these historic and scenic roadways will have an opportunity to visit the museum once it is erected.
