Florist Fire Still a Devastation

Bowie Florist had a devastating fire in the early morning on February, 15, 2009. They had just finished with the overwhelming flower arrangement orders for a successful Valentine's Day the night before.

Both of my daughters, Alyssa and Andrea, had worked there the night before the tragedy. I was out with my husband for Valentine's evening when I got the shocking phone call from Andrea around 1 a.m. that terrible morning.

I heard my daughter say with a trembling voice, "Mommy, Bowie Florist is on fire. I am walking over there now. There are fire trucks all over." Luckily, no one was hurt but there was a lot of water, fire and smoke damage to Bowie Florist and the Asian Market next door. The fire was caused by a computer cord.

It took 10 long months for Bowie Florist to be rebuilt and have everything professional cleaned to be usable again. In those 10 months, a lot of customers had to find other sources of flower arrangement and delivery. Most of those customers never returned when the shop reopened. Also, because the shop was closed, people thought the shop was closed permanently. Bowie Florist lost a lot of their customers and revenue.

Even after two years, they are still struggling to get their clients back and find new clients to keep this wonderful, long-time Bowie landmark going.
