Greetings from the Bowie Green Team!
The Bowie Green Team blog will be THE place to hear about upcoming green events and to learn how neighbors, businesses, and government are taking steps to make Bowie a more sustainable place.

Roughly one year ago, the City of Bowie established a Green Team to serve as an advocate in its efforts to become a certified community by Sustainable Maryland Certified, a program based at the University of Maryland. The Green Team joined together more than two dozen Bowie residents who came from a variety of backgrounds, all of whom shared a vision of Bowie as a more sustainable city. Some of the Green Team volunteers came with the dream of a more walkable, bikeable city; others fretted over the trash littering our streets and waterways; and still more wanted to see local businesses embrace practices friendlier to our environment. The Green Team - a group of enthusiastic, determined Bowie residents, with a wealth of knowledge to share - was born.
Since its inception, Green Team members have split into subcommittees in order to develop projects focused around four themes: local economies, natural resources, community-based food & wellness, and energy. We have many exciting projects planned for the next three years and we are looking forward to sharing details and updates about our programs on this new blog. We are also excited to share that Bowie has indeed achieved the recognition of becoming a certified community by Sustainable Maryland Certified, which means we have demonstrated an impressive commitment to making Bowie a greener place to live and work! More information about Bowie’s success can be found here.
