If it took Moses 40 years to cross the desert, it would take my sister and me, 39! And this is only because we might have a GPS! When it comes to traveling together, we truly put Thelma and Louise to shame. If one did not know us, they would think it is our first time going anywhere. The problem with us is our GPS system is of the I say "tomato" and you say "tamah to" variety, and this is why "tomato" is no longer our safe word. While we were in Florida, my sister wanted to visit the Spring training facilities. I was told to go TO 95 but I heard 295! Thereby making it tomato! Two hours later my sister asked me where we were going, I told her to Spring Training. UHM she said, we are going wrong. I am only following your directions I told her. I'm on 295 right? She looked at me and said I said TO 95! By the time I pulled off the road and we stopped laughing, we missed the Spring training but a lifetime memory was made!
Beth, it's your 30th birthday, let's go to Europe. We decided we'd go to London and Switzerland. In London, we quickly learned about our "other right" we spent 5 days looking a hundred times to cross a street. She told me her friend lived in Luzanne, I heard Lucerne! We landed in Lucerne and quickly found out Luzane was 3 hours away! This was the equivalent of flying in to Ohio when one needed to be in DC. Very few people spoke English, here we were laughing to the point of having to go the bathroom! We didn't understand the signs in the airport, at this point I was grateful we weren't in Scotland where perhaps the men's and ladies bathrooms would both have pictures of someone in skirts! And mind you, this was before the cell phone was in use.Well, here I did it again, only this time, I used the Potato-pa ta toh GPS, and instead of a lifetime memory, this was worthy of a Lifetime movie!I really don't know how this always happens with us, we were raised in the same area, it's not like one of us has an accent from Boston and the other from Mississippi, we are both smart ladies who happen to be direction dysfunctional. We both know taxi driver is not in our future, tour guides would be out and cartography is for anyone but us! We will not be Red Hatters, but more of the flower on the antenna women. Not the worst club to belong to, at least that will mean we are still able to get lost in our sisterly world on sides of the roads, airports, train stations etc. Maybe one day, we will not take the road less traveled but it will not be as much fun that I can tell you! In closing, I would like to think that Driving Miss Haley would be the best idea, don't worry Beth, I'll take you along for a ride! Potato pu tut oh, where are we going next? It won't matter because neither one of us will be driving!
At least we both know the tomato is a fruit! :)
