Car Crashes Into Duplex During Police Chase Sparking SUV, House Fire: PGPD

A police chase led to a car crashing into a duplex and catching both the SUV and the Temple Hills house on fire, according to police.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A police chase ended in a car fire and house fire Sunday around 1 a.m.

The Metropolitan Police Department's aviation unit requested assistance from the Prince George's County Police Department Aug. 27 as their officers were following a suspect's vehicle that was heading toward the county line, the police department reported.

A Prince George's police officer saw the vehicle near Suitland Parkway and Naylor Road in Temple Hills. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens and briefly pursued the SUV. The SUV crashed through a fence and then hit a duplex in the 2800 block of Bellbrook Street in Temple Hills, according to the police department.

The SUV caught fire, sparking a fire at the duplex. PGPD officers evacuated both homes and no one inside of the homes was injured. Both homes experienced severe damage from the fire. A PGPD officer also ran after the two suspects who bailed out of the vehicle following the crash. One of the suspects was apprehended nearby. He’s been identified as 21-year-old Imaauddin Hawkins of Washington, D.C. He’s currently charged with malicious destruction of property and traffic violations. The investigation to identify and arrest the second suspect is ongoing, the police department noted.
