Cops Called For Report Of Teen Drug Use, Find Stolen Vehicle: Greenbelt Police

Greenbelt police officers responding to a report about teens using drugs ended up finding a 15-year-old with a stolen vehicle.

GREENBELT, MD — Greenbelt police officers approached a vehicle parked in the 9200 block of Springhill Lane March 15 after receiving a report about juveniles smoking controlled substances. Officers found a gray Kia with its right rear window shattered and when most of the teens spied the officers, they took off running.

A 15-year-old boy sitting in the driver's seat was caught after a short chase. The Kia had damage to the steering wheel column consistent with the damage that's caused when a vehicle is being stolen, the police department reported.

The officers contacted the owner of the Kia who confirmed it had been stolen. The 15-year-old was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property/value less than $1,000. The 15-year old had been arrested by the Greenbelt Police Department previously, once for the attempted theft of an auto on Feb. 17 and once for a robbery on Oct. 19, 2022.
