DC Man Arrested After Crashing Stolen Car, Fleeing The Scene: Prince George's Police

A Washington, D.C., man has been arrested after police say he crashed a stolen car, tried to run from police with a gun, drugs in the car.

LANDOVER, MD — A Washington, D.C., man faces several charges after police say he eluded a traffic stop and crashed into several vehicles on the Capital Beltway.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Maryland state trooper from the College Park Barrack attempted to stop a dark gray Honda Insight on I-495 at Glenarden Parkway in Landover after seeing the driver driving recklessly on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway, the Maryland State Police reported.

As the Honda Insight and trooper vehicle were pulling onto the shoulder, the Honda Insight sped off into the travel lanes, crashed into three vehicles then the driver jumped out of his vehicle to escape the scene on foot. The trooper arrested the driver - Jeremiah David Fairfax, 23 - at the scene. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the initial crash, according to police.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Honda Insight vehicle Fairfax was driving was reported stolen to the Metropolitan Police Department. Police conducted an authorized search of the vehicle and recovered a loaded 10mm Glock with a high-capacity magazine, along with suspected cocaine, suspected cyclobenzaprine, a scale and other suspected illegal drugs.

After consulting with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County, Fairfax has been charged with felony motor vehicle theft, unlawful wearing, carrying of a loaded handgun, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence and other firearm and traffic-related charges. Fairfax currently is being held without bond at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. Additional drug-related charges are pending.
