Empowering Bowie’s Next Generation of Filmmakers Through Creative Mentorship
Why Investing in Digital Media Literacy and Creative Tools Is One of the Best Ways to Support Underserved Youth

Local news across Maryland frequently highlights the complex challenges facing our local school districts and youth rehabilitation systems. However, one of the most effective solutions to supporting underserved and justice-impacted youth is often left out of the conversation: the digital creative economy.
As a filmmaker, and digital creator, I have seen firsthand how professional media training can completely reshape a young person's trajectory. This is why our local nonprofit, My Fairy GodParents (MFGP), is actively expanding its multimedia pipelines right here in our community.
Our 501(c)(3) organization focuses on providing young people with the equipment, mentorship, and technical training needed to produce independent, professional user-generated content (UGC) and cinematic stories. Instead of traditional, rigid mentorship models, we treat these young creators as professional directors of their own lives.

Civic innovation thrives when we invest in modern media literacy. By teaching storytelling, we aren't just teaching a craft—we are handing Bowie's youth the keys to a sustainable, professional creative industry path. We encourage our neighbors to look beyond the statistics and help us amplify the incredible, untapped creative voices in our own backyard.
