Bowie State University Awards and Recognition Dinner

Bowie State University's Office of Institutional Advancement will hold the annual University Awards and Recognition Dinner, supporting the BIG Campaign and celebrating 145 years of service, on December 3. The formal affair will recognize individuals, particularly Marylanders, for their personal accomplishments, their contributions to the social progress of African Americans and their contributions to society as a whole. The dinner will also generate scholarship funds for deserving students, as well as essential funds for campus programs and infrastructure.

The awards were created to honor the achievements, sacrifice, challenges and triumphs of notable African American men and women or those who had substantial impact on the lives of African Americans, and to capture their first-person stories as a serious contribution to a global archival documentation of human progress over struggle. These stories will make up an oral history, which will be available to students, faculty, scholars and the general public as an archival resource through the University's Thurgood Marshall Library. Oral history is very much part of the African American tradition, embracing Bowie State University's history as the oldest historically black college/university (HBCU) in Maryland.

In addition, the University is seeking sponsorships for the awards dinner and selling advertisements in the souvenir booklet. For more information on these opportunities, as well as the four awards presented at the event, click here.
