Ex-Boyfriend Convicted Of Murdering Former Girlfriend: Prince George's County Court

An ex-boyfriend has been found guilty of killing his former girlfriend by a Prince George's County jury.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Charles Edward Kelly, 46, has been found guilty of killing his ex-girlfriend in October 2019. After a week-long trial and less than three hours of deliberation, a Prince George’s County jury convicted Kelly of first-degree murder, use of a handgun in the commission of a violent crime and related gun charges.

Kelly faces a potential maximum sentence of life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced April 5.

On Oct. 15, 2019, Prince George's County police officers responded to the 1000 block of 56th Avenue in Fairmount Heights where they found 20-year-old Brianna Green in the driver’s seat of a Lexus ES300 with gunshot wounds. After emergency personnel arrived, the victim was pronounced dead, according to the Office of the State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County.

A registration check of the vehicle where Green was found established that both vehicles driven by Green and Kelly were registered to the shooter’s estranged wife. Investigators also learned that the Kelly and Green were in a two-year relationship but were no longer together at the time of the shooting. The investigation established Kelly as the suspected shooter, according to the Office of the State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County.

"I am grateful that justice has been served in this case. Brianna Green was a young woman with a bright future, and she deserved to be with us today. I want to commend the prosecutors who tried this case for their commitment and diligence in achieving justice for the family and loved ones of Brianna. I am very pleased with this guilty verdict and the fact that we were able to hold Mr. Kelly accountable for committing this murder,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
