Firefighters Battle 2 Blazes At Homes In Hyattsville, New Carrollton

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Crews battled two house fires in New Carrollton on Wednesday, according to authorities.

The first house fire was reported around 4:49 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the home located in the 7800 block of Powhatan Street in New Carrollton. Crews found a fire in the kitchen that had extended into the attic at the two-story home.

The fire was extinguished without injuries, but remains under investigation, officials said.

The second house fire broke out around 6:50 p.m. at another two-story home located in the 6100 block of 42nd Avenue in Hyattsville.

When crews arrived, firefighters found flames shooting through the roof. They extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. That fire is also being investigated, the fire department said.
