Firefighters Take Car Apart to Rescue Kitten

A driver pulled into a Prince George's County fire station in need of help. The tiny patient survived by a whisker.

A tiny patient took a road trip in the engine compartment of a car driving around Prince George’s County and two fire departments came to her rescue.

Deputy Chief John Guyton of the Chillum-Adelphi Volunteer Fire Department posted the saga of the feline on Facebook.

The car’s driver pulled into the station to ask for firefighters’ help freeing the trapped cat. Once firefighters realized he was serious, they looked under the hood and found the stuck kitten.

Rescuers had to disassemble part of the car’s front end to reach the kitten, and called in a squad from Berwyn Heights to assist.

During the rescue a veterinarian was consulted, who suggested oxygen be given to the kitten. Once she was freed, the kitten was taken to Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital in Laurel, where she was pronounced in good condition with minor scrapes and a burn on her rump, Guyton said.

“The car was also put back together with no parts left over,” he noted.

The cuddly cat is in need of a good home, the department says.
