PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- A Prince George's County grand jury indicted Martique Vanderpool Tuesday on multiple charges, including rape and exposing/attempting to expose a victim to HIV, according to a police release. Vanderpool is a former officer with the Fairmont Heights Police Department.

Earlier in January, a first-degree rape charge against Vanderpool was initially dismissed and he was placed on electronic monitoring and confined to his home. But, after the grand jury reviewed all the evidence, Vanderpool was indicted Jan. 21 with first-degree rape and other charges.

A preliminary investigation by the Prince George’s County Police Department revealed that Vanderpool and a second FHPD officer made a traffic stop on Sept. 6, 2019, at Sheriff Road and Cabin Branch Drive in Capitol Heights. Vanderpool asked the victim, an adult female who was the only occupant of the vehicle, to step out of the vehicle. She was handcuffed and Vanderpool requested that a tow truck impound her car. The officers transported the victim to FHPD headquarters, where Vanderpool told her that if she didn't perform a sex act she would be arrested. After the victim complied, Vanderpool issued her with several citations, transported her to the impound lot and saw that her car was released.
