The holidays are just around the corner, including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, just to name a few. You can shop in the crowded stores with the other millions of people or you can shop local and small at the many craft fairs and markets. Get outside on a gorgeous fall day and enjoy a cup of steaming coffee or cocoa, and a fresh-baked cookie. Some are during the week and at night. But most are on Saturdays and Sundays. They are usually FREE and you will see many vendors with fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, baked goods, fresh cut flowers, live plants, and beautiful, handmade items.

The farmer's markets that I enjoy are Bowie (cityofbowie.org) and Davidsonville. They are also in Annapolis, Crofton, and Greenbelt. The Bowie Farmer's Market continues through Sunday, October 25. Patuxent Wildlife Refuge has an event on November 7. The Bowie Elks Lodge has a holiday craft fair on November 14. The City of Bowie has a Holiday Arts & Crafts Market at the Bowie Senior Center on November 21. The Bowie Senior Center has an event on Friday, December 4. If you check online and social media, you will find many more.

Whether you are a vendor trying to sell your wares or a shopper looking for gifts, you can find great locations at craft fairs and markets. Shop local, shop small, and enjoy the go!
