Homicide Reported In Bowie After Gunshots: Police

BOWIE, MD -- Police are investigating the murder of a man in Bowie that happened over the weekend.

Bowie police officers responded to the 1200 block of Pennypacker Lane at around 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 20, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

When they arrived at the scene, the victim -- 27-year-old Derrick Whittaker of Capitol Heights -- had already been driven to a local hospital, the report states.

Whittaker, who was shot in the upper body, was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police do not think this was a random crime. They are offering $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
