How to Dispose of Christmas Trees in Prince George's County
The time has come to say goodbye to that tree that's been lighting your home this season.

The Prince George’s County Department of the Environment is providing residents with a great opportunity to recycle and compost their Christmas trees and other post-holiday waste.
Starting Dec. 28 and running through Jan. 29, county residents with yard waste collection service may place their Christmas trees, cardboard boxes, wrapping paper and holiday cards curbside by 6:30 a.m. on their regularly scheduled collection service day for pickup.
All trees must be real, free from stands and bare of decorations including lights, ornaments, tinsel and garland. Also, all metal and plastic materials must be removed from trees.

“This eco-friendly service to county residents is part of our continued efforts to keep organic materials out of the landfill and reuse Christmas trees to make a rich mulch product that’s given right back to county residents for free during our annual Mulch Madness giveaway event in April,” said DoE Director Adam Ortiz.
Unwanted artificial Christmas trees that are in good condition may be donated to a local thrift store for resale; and, Christmas tree and holiday lights, also known as string lights, may be dropped off for recycling at R3 Services, 5711 Tuxedo Road in Hyattsville. Drop-off hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
