Input Needed About Proposed PGCPS School Calendar By Feb. 15

Share your opinion about the proposed Prince George's County Public Schools' 2023-2024 school calendar by Feb. 15.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Input about the Prince George’s County Public Schools' 2023-2024 school calendar is being sought.

According to the school district, two calendar drafts have been prepared that share the following features:

  • First day for returning teachers – Aug. 18 (new teachers start on Aug. 15)
  • First day for students – Aug. 28
  • Four teacher professional development days – Aug. 22, Aug. 23, Oct. 20 and March 4
  • Seven mandatory state holidays – Sept. 4 (Labor Day), Jan. 1 (New Year’s), Jan. 15 (Martin L. King Jr. Day), Feb. 19 (Presidents Day), March 29 and April 1 (Easter), April 23 (Presidential Primary Election Day) and May 27
  • Four PGCPS holidays – April 10 (Eid al-Fitr), June 19 (Juneteenth), July 4 (Independence Day), Sept. 25 (Yom Kippur),
  • Three 3-hour early dismissal days for students at the end of the first three quarters
  • Parent/Teacher Conference opportunities on Thanksgiving Break – Nov. 22-24
  • Winter Break – Dec. 25-Jan. 1
  • Spring Break – March 25-April 1
  • Three built-in inclement weather days at the end of the school year

Calendar Draft 1 has the third quarter ending immediately before spring break (March 21), June 12 as the last day for students and June 17 as the last day for teachers.

Calendar Draft 2 extends winter break through Jan. 2, ends the third quarter after spring break on April 4 and shifts the last day for students to June 13 and the last day for teachers to June 18.

Review both Draft 1 and Draft 2 of the calendar and take a short survey by Feb. 15 to share your input and preferred draft.
