NATIONAL HARBOR, MD — The family of a now 8-year-old girl who was electrocuted at MGM National Harbor in June 2018 has settled a lawsuit against the companies involved, according to a report. The terms of the settlement, and whether the victim received any payment for ongoing care she needs after suffering a traumatic brain injury, were not disclosed.

Zynae Green was 6 years old when she touched a lighted handrail that had become electrified. Her family sued on the basis that she was a victim of negligence on the part of MGM Resorts. The lawsuit also claims that two other family members, a 5-year-old and 16-year-old, were injured in the incident and hospitalized.

Photos emerged that allegedly show bad wiring that may have led to the girl's electrocution. An MGM National Harbor employee who tried to help the girl was also reportedly hurt.

An independent engineer hired to review the malfunction said that because of improper installation, faulty wiring and problems with rail anchoring, the handrail that was designed to carry 12 volts instead carried 120 volts, The Washington Post reports. The jolt stopped Zynae's heart, and while she was resuscitated, she suffered a significant brain injury.

The Green family moved to the Baltimore area so Zynae is closer to treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The girl must eat and breathe through tubes, and communicates in blinks and smiles.

Zynae’s parents sued MGM, electrical contractor Rosendin Electric and general contractorWhiting-Turner in a bid to pay for their daughter's lifetime of medical care. Attorneys for Rosendin and Turner sparred in court documents over which company was to blame for the malfunction in the handrail.
