Liquor License Chairman Gets Arrested on Drunk Driving Charges in PG County: Report

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD — The chairman of the Prince George's County commission overseeing liquor licenses has been arrested on drunk driving charges after a crash outside of MGM National Harbor on Thursday night, according to a report.

The Washington Post reports that Charles Caldwell, 72, has been charged with DUI, reckless driving and some other traffic offenses at 11:40 p.m., about 40 minutes after the casino and resort opened to the public.

Caldwell failed a field sobriety test and was arrested as a result, the report states.

Caldwell has been chair of the Prince George's Board of License Commissioners since 2015, when he was appointed by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan. He is responsible for overseeing the board, which issues liquor licenses and regulates the sale of alcohol.

It's the second drunk driving incident involving a Prince George's County official. Last month, council member Mel Franklin was arrested on DUI charges after police say he rear-ended a car stopped at a red light.
