Man Charged After Shooting, Carjacking Spree In PG County
Two people were injured Friday in a crime spree that also prompted multiple schools to lock down.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A man is facing charges following a shooting and carjacking spree that ended with multiple people injured, according to authorities.
Larry James Simpson, 68, of Glen Burnie, is accused of committing multiple shootings and carjackings at five locations across the northern portion of Prince George’s County on Friday, police said in a statement.
According to police, around 2:30 p.m., officers received a call about a man pointing a long gun out of his car window in the 5100 block of Pierce Avenue in College Park. Witnesses reported the man fired several shots.

A short time later, police said Simpson shot at a car with a 64-year-old man inside on Riverdale Road at the BW Parkway in Riverdale. A round struck the car’s window, causing the victim to suffer cuts to his head. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Minutes later, police said Simpson’s car struck another vehicle at 67th Avenue at Patterson Street in Riverdale, causing Simpson's car to overturn. According to police, Simpson exited his car and carjacked a Nissan at this location.

During the carjacking, police said Simpson shot at several people. One man was struck by the gunfire and was critically injured, but he is expected to survive his injuries.
Several minutes later, Simpson shot at a woman and carjacked her Toyota at Kenilworth Avenue and Good Luck Road in Riverdale, police said. The woman was not injured.
Finally, police said Simpson attempted to carjack a Honda in the 9000 block of Edmonston Road in Greenbelt. At this location, Simpson shot in the direction of the off-duty Prince George's County police officer who was pursuing the suspect in his personal car. The officer was not struck.
With the assistance of three U.S. Park Police officers, Simpson was taken into custody. An AR-15 style rifle was recovered at this scene.
Simpson was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries likely suffered during the car crash in Riverdale, police said. He has since been released and is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He is currently charged with 16 counts of attempted first-degree murder, 16 counts of attempted second-degree murder and other counts.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives want to speak to witnesses with information relevant to this case and hear from any additional victims.
