Man Charged With Arson After Temple Hills Apartment Fire

The fire caused an estimated $1 million in damage, authorities said.

TEMPLE HILLS, MD — A man was charged with arson following an apartment fire in Temple Hills, authorities announced Friday afternoon.

Officials responded to the blaze at 9:14 p.m. Thursday on 3309 Huntley Square Dr. While first responders were en route, police detained a suspect, according to the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department.

Anthony Cooper, 50, of Temple Hills, was charged with arson (first-degree) and reckless endangerment.

Officials requested a second alarm during the fire, which caused an estimated $1 million in damage, authorities said. Once the fire was extinguished, the Office of the Fire Marshall examined the scene and interviewed witnesses. Cooper admitted to investigators that he intentionally ignited a fire in the apartment, officials said.

Two firefighters went to the hospital for minor burns. They were treated and released.

Officials took Cooper to the Prince George's County Department of Corrections for processing.
