More Than 18,000 Coronavirus Cases in Prince George's County

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The coronavirus death toll has reached 653 in Prince George's County, the Maryland Department of Health reported Friday. The county has registered 18,307 cases of the virus.

More than 9.6 million people around the world have been infected by coronavirus. Global deaths from the virus total more than 490,000, according to Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, almost 2.4 million people have been infected and more than 124,000 have died from coronavirus.

Prince George's County still has the most confirmed coronavirus cases in the state, according to the latest data from the Maryland Department of Health. Montgomery County has the second most, with a total of 14,471 positive cases. Montgomery County, however, has more coronavirus-related deaths than Prince George's County with 691 deaths as of Friday morning. As of Friday morning, 3,015 people have died statewide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises doing the following to slow the spread of coronavirus:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If this is not available, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60 percent alcohol.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Keep 6 feet of space between people.
• Stay home.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

The CDC lists these as symptoms of coronavirus:

• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
