NFL Wild Card Game: Washington Hosts Green Bay

Oddsmakers say the hot-streak Redskins should edge past the struggling Packers on Sunday at FedEx Field.

LANDOVER, MD — Oddsmakers give a slight nod to the Washington Redskins in this weekend’s NFL wild card matchup against the skidding Green Bay Packers.

The NFC East champion Washington team, 9-7, brings a four-game winning streak to the gridiron. Meanwhile the Packers are 10–6, but lost last weekend to the Minnesota Vikings.

Game time is 4:40 p.m. ET this Sunday, Jan. 10, at FedExField in Landover. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

According to ESPN’s Redskins blog, Washington is the favorite in this meeting between the teams, even though Green Bay has more playoffs appearances and has a Super Bowl in the past decade.

By comparison the Redskins made the playoffs twice, won 10 games once, and lost double-digit games five times. But the blog gives the edge to the hot Redskins over what it calls the stumbling Packers.

Sportswriters looking at the quarterback matchup note that the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers has had dismal offensive outings this season, while relative newcomer Kirk Cousins – a benchwarmer a year ago for Washington – led his team from a 2-4 start in the regular season to a 7-3 finish and a playoff berth.

“It doesn’t take anything special or anything magical to be a great quarterback,” Cousins told The Washington Post. “You just have to be decisive. Have good command. Let the system work for you. Let the guys around you work for you. If you do that, good things will happen.”
