Nine-Vehicle Crash Kills Springdale Woman

A Laurel driver in the pileup is being detained on a warrant and for driving without a license, according to Maryland State Police.

SPRINGDALE, MD — A Laurel man without a driver’s license is being held by police after he was involved in a nine-vehicle crash Thursday that killed a Springdale woman.

Maryland State Police are investigating the fatal crash said the driver killed is Angela Jefferson, 53, of the 4000 block of 91st Avenue in Springdale. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

She was the sole occupant in the GMC she was driving.

Authorities say Juan Sanchez, 34, of the unit block of Fairview Street in Laurel was driving a Chevrolet Silverado. Troopers on the scene discovered Sanchez was driving without a driver’s license and had an outstanding arrest.

Sanchez was taken by troopers to Prince George’s Hospital Center. Charges are pending and a security detail has been assigned to Sanchez.

Investigators say that shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday, Sanchez was southbound in a Chevy Silverado on Largo Road at Lottsford Road. Jefferson was in a GMC, traveling in an unknown direction on Lottsford Road. For reasons still under investigation, their vehicles collided and then struck seven other vehicles.

The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.

Maryland State Police from the Forestville Barrack responded to the scene. Police officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department assisted, along with personnel from Prince George’s County Fire Department. State Highway Administration assisted with the road closures and detours while investigators worked at the scene.

State Police ask that anyone who saw the crash call the Forestville Barrack at (301) 568-8101.
