UPPER MARLBORO, MD — No charges will be filed against two Prince George’s County Sheriff’s deputies who shot and killed a knife-wielding man last May after he rammed his vehicle into their patrol cars.
The sheriff’s office said Friday that after an investigation and review by the County Police and the state’s attorney, no action will be taken against Corporal Jamal Dedier and Deputy First Class Anthony Bynum. On May 10, 2015, they fatally shot suspect Lionel Lorenzo Young, 34, of Landover, when they responded to a domestic violence call.

“This matter has been rigorously investigated and reviewed under the expert investigative and judgmental gaze of experienced detectives and legal authority,” said Sheriff Melvin C. High in a statement. “Beyond that, I have undertaken my own review and evaluation of the incident of May 10th of last year and find that our deputies acted appropriately in a dangerous situation.”
Both deputies have been on administrative leaving since the shooting. Dedier has worked for the department for six years and Bynum has worked with the agency for five years.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 6200 block of Central Avenue in Landover about 9 p.m. May 15 for a domestic dispute, with Young reportedly armed with a knife. Deputies tried to stop Young, but he fled at a high rate of speed, authorities said.
Their pursuit ended in the 900 block of Nalley Road, in the parking lot of Cora L. Rice Elementary School, according to ABC7.
Investigators say Young intentionally struck two sheriff’s vehicles, at which time the two deputies fired, fatally striking Young. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two knives were recovered from the scene.
