A Forest Heights officer shot a driver believed to be carrying a knife who approached police after they pulled him over, according to PGPD.
FOREST HEIGHTS, MD — A Silver Spring man faces charges after police say he brandished what looked like a knife and approached officers with the weapon Monday night. A Forest Heights police officer fired his weapon and shot the man once.
The incident happened April 15 around 5:30 p.m. when Forest Hills police officers saw a vehicle wanted in a neighboring jurisdiction that had been linked to an assault. After pulling the vehicle over, officers commanded the driver, 35-year-old Jhomari Delevante, to get out of the SUV. When he did, he was holding what police believed to be a knife and began moving toward the officers, according to a police report.
A Forest Heights police officer fired his gun and hit Delevante one time. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren't life-threatening. Police found a silver colored multi-tool at the scene believed to be what Delevante was holding during the incident, according to the police department.
