An Oxon Hill man has been convicted of killing a 20-year-old student athlete at the University of the District of Columbia.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 32-year-old Oxon Hill man has been convicted of killing Dorian Hurd, a 20-year-old student athlete. Tevin Ream has been found guilty of first-degree murder, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony and related charges.

On March 18, 2021, Ream shot 20-year-old Dorian Hurd who had gone to a tattoo shop in the 4300 Block of St. Barnabas Road to get a tattoo. When Hurd stepped outside of the tattoo shop located in a strip mall, surveillance video showed Ream pass by him closely, and within minutes, opened fire on Hurd, who fell to the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, according to prosectors.

“He intended to shoot him,” Assistant State’s Attorney Thea Zumwalt said during the closing arguments. “He walked right up to him and shot him in the head.”

Ream then took off across the street and tried to dump the gun. He entered a cleaners and hid the weapon. Officers arrested him as he exited the business, according to court documents.

“Today, we achieved justice for Mr. Hurd,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy. “This is a crime that not only impacted Mr. Hurd’s family, but this community because he was a young, vibrant athlete with a promising future. This verdict will hopefully bring some relief and closure to the family and ensure that Mr. Ream is held accountable for this senseless crime."
