Original story
Green Line service will be suspended through Wednesday evening’s rush hour, and maybe into the night, after a section of a pedestrian bridge collapsed onto the line’s tracks between College Park and Greenbelt stations.
A portion of the concrete bridge fell onto the Green Line tracks in the 5100 block of Berwyn Road shortly before 3 p.m. today after being hit by the boom of a rail crane operated by a Metro contractor, according to a news release.
The contractor, Skanska, was performing work to support the construction of a new track.
There were no injuries reported, Prince George’s County emergency officials said.
Green Line service is expected to remain suspended through rush hour. Metro is providing free shuttle bus service between College Park and Greenbelt stations. Riders traveling to and from Greenbelt should allow 30 minutes of additional travel time.
Metro authorities say Green Line service between College Park and Branch Avenue stations is operating normally. In addition, Metro has extended some Yellow Line trains to/from College Park to supplement Green Line service.
