PG County 'Disappointed' After Not Making Amazon 2HQ Short List
County executive Rushern Baker congratulated the three other D.C.-area localities that made the list.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- The D.C. area scored big when Amazon released their short list for the cities that could host their massive second headquarters, grabbing three spots on the list of 20 finalists. Unfortunately, Prince George's County was not among them despite submitting a bid.
D.C., Northern Virginia, and Montgomery County, Md. made the list, and the winner -- to be announced later this year -- would get billions of dollars in investment and tens of thousands of jobs. PG County executive Rushern Baker tweeted that he was "disappointed" the county did not make the list, while praising his economic team for a "great bid." He added that he was "proud" to root for the other D.C.-area locations on the list.
"As the Amazon HQ2 process moves forward, I want to, first and foremost, support and endorse the Montgomery County bid," Baker said in a statement. "Amazon choosing the Montgomery County location would be the best choice for Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland. I enthusiastically congratulate County Executive Leggett and his economic development team on becoming a finalist and wish them best of luck as the process moves forward. We were gratified when Montgomery County endorsed Prince George’s County’s bid for the FBI headquarters, and are pleased to now support their effort for Amazon."

He added that Amazon's selection of Nothern Virginia and D.C. as well shows that the company "clearly recognizes the strength of the region," and that it shows that PG County has a lot of potential for growth along with the rest of the area.
"It is clear that our County’s economic development reputation has grown leaps and bounds over the last several years," he said. "From our outstanding bid to become the new home to the FBI Headquarters to being currently 21st in the nation amongst large counties, and #1 in the State of Maryland, in terms of job growth, we have become the economic engine of the State of Maryland and the National Capital Region.

"Although today’s announcement is a disappointment, I expect that with nearly $10 billion dollars in economic investment created over the last seven years, we are going to continue our unprecedented economic growth and attract companies of similar importance to that of Amazon," he added.
