PG County Man Robs U.Md. Conference Center, Sentenced To Prison

A Bowie man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for robbing the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center in September 2016.

GREENBELT, MD — A 24-year-old Bowie man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for robbing the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center in September 2016.

According to his plea agreement, Jamal Ulysses Green and a co-conspirator robbed the University of Maryland University College Inn and Conference Center September 6, 2016. Green, who was armed and not wearing a mask, approached a security guard and told him he was making a delivery to UMUC.

The guard followed Green to the loading dock, where Green then grabbed him The security guard fought back, and during the altercation, Green fired his gun, but did not strike the guard, prosecutors said.

Shortly after that, Green’s co-conspirator, wearing a mask and brandishing a handgun, entered the security office of UMUC demanding money and ordering the occupants to the ground.

During this time, the security guard involved in the physical altercation with Green on the loading dock returned to the Security Office. The co-conspirator then fired his gun at the security guard, striking the security guard in the upper left arm, with the bullet going through his/her arm, and lodging next to the security guard’s spine, prosectors said.

A few seconds later, Green entered the security office. Green and his co-conspirator took three safes from the security office and fled the area, prosecutors said.

PGPD K-9 found Green in the woods, hiding in overgrown shrubs and trees. Green matched the physical description of the unmasked person seen in the UMUC security video, and was wearing clothing similar in color as one of the suspects who committed the robbery.

Two of the safes taken from the UMUC Security Office were located in the immediate vicinity of where Green was hiding. A third, larger safe, that Green was seen on video carrying out of the security office, was found near the loading dock area concealed amongst trees, next to a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, prosecutors said. A forensic analysis of the magazine recovered from the firearm revealed a fingerprint that matched Green’s fingerprint.

Green was arrested and subsequently charged in Prince George’s County District Court with several criminal offenses. On September 7, 2016, Green made a recorded call to an unidentified male during which he admitted that he fired his gun, but did not hit anybody, prosectors said.

Green was sentenced to 16 years in prison and five years of supervised release for commercial robbery and using, brandishing and shooting a firearm during a crime of violence.
