UNIVERSITY PARK, MD — A Prince George's County police officer is being hailed as a hero after delivering a baby on the side of a busy highway recently. Police released video of the encounter, which is embedded below.
PG County Police Sergeant Nick Cacale "was flagged down by an expectant father" on East West Highway in University Park last Thursday night, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.
"The father had been desperately trying to get his pregnant wife to the hospital in time to be under the supervision of doctors and nurses," the report states. "But, the baby had other plans. When he arrived on the scene, Sergeant Cicale radioed in to dispatch at 9:40 pm 'Female is having a baby, like right now.'"
