A golf course employee spotted Bartee’s vehicle on fire when he arrived at work and called 911 about 5 a.m. Sunday.

After the Prince George’s County Fire Department extinguished the flames, they discovered Bartee outside of his car. He had suffered severe burns and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say Bartee drove his car onto the golf course and it became stuck in a muddy area. It appears the engine caught fire as Bartee attempted to free his car. Detectives are investigating why he initially drove onto the course.

Members of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police handled the investigation, along with Prince George’s County Police Department homicide detectives.
