Police: Mom Who Suffocated Children Tried to Revive Them
Authorities released 911 tapes, revealing Cheverly woman performing CPR on the two children.

A 24-year-old Cheverly mother charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the suffocation deaths of her two young children tried to revive them when her mother called 911.
Recordings of a 911 call between Paivi Spoon, Sonya Spoon’s mother, were recently released by police. Paivi Spoon told the 911 dispatcher she and Sonya Spoon were performing CPR on the children, according to The Washington Post. In part of the recording, Sonya Spoon could be heard apparently counting chest compressions for CPR.
Prince George’s County Police were called to the home on the 6200 block of Forest Road around 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 7 for a report of two unconscious children, Patch previously reported. The children were rushed to a local hospital, where both were pronounced dead -- Ayden Spoon, 1, at 2:55 a.m. and Kayla Thompson, 3, at 6:55 a.m.

Sonya Spoon was heard moments later saying, “Come on, baby. Come on, please.”
The week prior to the children’s death, Sonya Spoon was taken to a hospital for an emergency psychiatric evaluation, according to the Post. She had threatened to kill daughter Kayla and to commit suicide.
Sonya Spoon admitted on the scene to suffocating her children, police say, and was taken into custody. She had been involved in custody battles over the children, according to the Post.
The motive for killing the children is still under investigation.
